Death Of Cheteria
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, accompanied by HRH Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, yesterday paid his last respects to former police commissioner YAM Pengiran Setia Raja Pengiran Haji Jaya bin Pengiran Haji Rajin at Kg Sungai Tilong, Jalan Muara, who passed away yesterday morning at RIPAS Hospital around 5.45am.
He was 83 years old, RTB reported.
He was awarded the title Cheteria -Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Setia Raja – on March 18, 1969. He was also awarded several honorary medals.
They include Dato Lela Utama, DK, Dato Seri Utama, DK, DHPNB, PHBS, QPM, CPM, PJK, Pingat Perjuangan, PKLP, Pingat Puspa and Pingat Polis Diraja.
He was the police commissioner from 1975 to 1983 before becoming ambassador- at-large for the country. He was later appointed as council member of Mesyuarat Diraja and Mesyuarat Mengangkat Raja.
He leaves behind his wife, eight children, more than 30 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
