Increasing literacy rate
Libraries crumped with exiciting extraordinary design and fascinating book contents will deifnitely put a cheerful smile on most students’ faces as they serve as the modern banks of well-polished general information, facts and figures as well as fiction stories.
Speaking to the Vance Tan Online Saturday was Mr. Alan Fletcher, an English educator at PJN Secondary School, researcher of the Centre For Brunei Teachers (CFBT). He told us that his effort done to attempt to improve the literacy rate amongst the inquisitive young minded students is by taking them frequently to the school’s library with a teacher guiding them most of the time especially during which the students have difficulties in their reading and pronunciation.
On top of that, Mr Fletcher also added that the library should be well-maintained and kept so that is remains to be a tidy, eye-pleasing floor for the students to mingle around with interesting reading materials such as newspapers, magazines and books. Confidently, he also strongly recommends students to read the Brunei Times as the range of vocabulary and punctuation range is wide and complex.
