Virus
A virus is a type of malware which corrupts files, can replicate itself and cause damage to the other programmes on the computer or desktop. They often occur when alien programs are opened through double-clicking or even single-clicking. Usually, viruses travels from from thumbdrives borrowed from unknown sources and hyperlinks of unknown contents.

Worm
Worms also replicate itself but mostly spread through the Internet. It is less related to programs, but in fact spawns copies to use up people’s bandwidth.

Spyware
Malware which collects personal information stored in the computer, without the user’s knowledge. Sometimes credit card numbers stored in computers may be retrieved by this method unwearily by hackers.

Trojan
They usually disguise as online e-cards, free screensavers, free dating programmes and even games. Such freebies should not be clicked without inspections, unless you reallt have a trust in the site. Once clicked, it hides itself and installs codes on your computer for worms and trojans to enter.

How to operate a fire extinguisher: This section is brought to you by the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department, in case of any emergency.

Step 1: Hold the fire extinguisher in an upright position. Pull out the safety device which is fitted to prevent accidental handling.

Step 2: Aim the extinguisher nozzle at the base of the fire. Keep a safe distance of about 1 to 1.5 metres away from the fire.

Step 3: Press the top level of the extinguisher. Use a sweeping movement to allow discharge to be directed over the entire area of the fire.

Step 4: When the fire is extinguished, open all the windows and doors to ventilate the area.

Giving your hard disk a special health checkup: Viruses on computers seems to spread more and more as spammers and hackers began their motive to destroy pc properties. At Vance Tan office, a few images were unreadable anymore as the virus known as HAHA.js, apparently transmitted through someone’s thumbdrive had a special script to cause the damage.

It is therefore advisable to computer users out there to frequently check their computers to ensure they are in the stable healthy condition. All you have to do is:

1. Click “My Computer” on your PC Desktop

2. Point your mouse to the “C Drive” and right click

3. Select the “Properties Tab” and then click the “Tools” button.

4. Next, click the “Check Now” button

5. Click “Start” and the laptop may prompt you to reboot your computer.

Often, this process takes quite a long time and it is only advisable to check your computer when you are not using them urgently.

Road Safety: The roads have been wet, so do buckle up for safety. Just to recap the Road Crossing Rules as set by the Road Safety Council of Brunei Darussalam, fines would be given to any individuals who disobey the rules and regulations which includes a fine of not more than $1000 for the first offence, and not more than $2000 for the next consequent offence, if pleaded guilty.

As highlighted by the National Road Safety Council, the main intent of newly hired “road guards” is to ensure that the safety of the children especially during school hours, are guaranteed safe and up to the schedules.

As a driver, the following should be observed:

1. Slow down your vehicle in an occasion of zebra-crossing.

2. Stop at the stop sign.

3. Stop your vehicle and be cautious when entering the school zone.
