It’s actually quite coincidental that the Chinese community expects two celebrations in one day, which is 14th February 2010. This is because both the first day of Chinese New Year and the all known Valentine’s Day falls on this day.

The question that arise is that whether to choose your valentine for a date or family for a great, auspicious Chinese New Year 2010? This year is the year of Tiger 2010, and many of them might not want to miss out the auspicious celebrations. But, for newly known couples, valentine’s day might probably be their choice this year.

Lion dance is a tradition of all Chinese celebrating Chinese New Year, especially for those who are involved in business. It is either you invite a lion dance troop to your residence, or you watch it from the window of your car. To touch a lion dance is considered an auspicious thing as Chinese believes that it will bring luck and prosperity throughout the year. Some of them also considered plucking the “moustache” of a lion’s head and putting it into a red packet brings wealth.

I took a few shots of the lion dances this morning, and as we speak, more lion dances groups are making their destination to residences for about three days starting today. They are there to entertain, but of a different method. In the olden days, lion dance troops travel residence by residence to perform, and they were given tips by the people, as wished. Nowadays, lion dances troops only serve to those residences who can afford them.
