Maziah Mahusin has turned a household name when the news arise that she was one of two Brunei representatives to compete at the Summer Games in London.

Despite not making it in 2010, Maziah will be the first female olympian from Brunei to have ever competed in the Summer Games. She was quoted to have told TIME magazine that “I know it’s not fast, but it’s the best for me to date”. Her best lap time was behind the expected ‘A’ qualifying time of 51.55 seconds, but the International Olympics Committee (IOC) has invited her based on their ‘concept of universality’.
