Privilege Abused

PRIVILEGE ABUSED - Many residents nowadays are abusing the privilege of playing the crackers. The sights of crackers at the beginning of the Chinese New Year could seem reasonable, but the continuous crackers for 15 days consecutively was almost disturbing the whole residential area, not one night, but for 15 nights. It would be wise if the money used to “burn” the crackers were put to good use such as donating it to charity.

The aftermath of an 8.8 quake in Chile has caused a death toll nearly doubles as rescuers reach isolated and devastated towns. About 2 million people are hurt or without their homes while the death toll jumps to 708.

Buildings have been reduced to rubble – and phone lines have been brought down. Seismologists say the tremor has caused a tsunami – with three-metre-high waves heading towards Chile’s coast. The most devastating earthquake in the country’s history struck in 1960 – killing more than 1600 people.

BSP FD Family Charity Day

Brunei Shell Petroleum Company yesterday marked another milestone by organising the FD Family/Charity Day at the OGDC’s Big Top. What made the event so special? A car boot sale was the main highlight of the day whereby sellers would not only make money from their sales but at the same time donate to the people in need. 50% of the sales at the car boot sale yesterday went to the sellers while the remaining percentages proceeded to SMARTER Brunei.

Present at the ceremony as the main guest was Michael Taylor, the Financial Director of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company. The event was spiced up with performances by the Brunei Prison’s band and even heated up with energising voices of DJ Izan, a Pilihan FM deejay, who was the emcee for the event. Her gorgeous, colourful, cordial and welcoming character made kids and adults alike to enjoy themselves despite the scorching weather.
