This website provides an update of all eXplomaths related activities during the day itself with informative and attracive photographs to cheer those who have missed it.
Sekolah Menengah Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar has been chosen as the hosting school for this year’s eXplomath 2009, which is an annual event co-organised by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company and the STEP Centre of Brunei Darussalam. This year is meant to be much unique with the elimination of the “eXplomath Mathematics Quiz” which was a major fad for the past few years, but instead was replaced by exciting project competitions.
After a few months of preparations, the eXplomath Project Competition come to an end with two winning schools: Chung Hua Middle School, BSB and St. Andrew’s School, BSB.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Guest of Honour, Awg Hj Kamaluddin bin Bungsu, Asset Manager at BSP. The closing ceremony took place at PJNPHAB Secondary School.

More than 350 students and teachers attended the closing ceremony with a few officers from Brunei Shell Petroleum Company and STEP Centre.

A welcoming speech was presented by the principal of the school, Cikgu Dayang Marina Chek binti Bujang. It was then continued by a speech from the Guest of Honour.

In Haji Kamaluddin’s speech, he touched about the importance and vitality of Mathematics and it is a subject which has been related to as a difficult subject by students. However, he said, that Mathematics is in fact a very comprehensive subject if one does it with passion and practice. This is where the concept “Practice makes Perfect” comes into good practice.

The audience was then previlleged to watch a presentation done by winners of both winning categories. The PMV category presented their presentation about “Hire Purchase” while the “Year 7-Year 8″ category presented about “Mensuration”. A great start by the first speaker of the “Year 7-Year 8″ category led to a massive wave of applause as his confidence has done the audience similar.
After the presentation, prizes were then presented to the winner and runner-up of the Mathematics Carnival after being judged by professional judges from the STEP Centre. The winning school went to Chung Ching Middle School while the runner up went to the hosting school, PJNPHAB Secondary School.
A short tour by the Guest of Honour and attended guest was the last sub-event during the closing ceremony. The Guest of Honour was briefed and demonstrated on the exhibited booths with a few puzzles left to be answered.
The next, 18th eXplomaths 2009, will be expected to be hosted by Sekolah Menengah Muda Hashim. However, further consideration by the STEP Centre is still on-going.
