Vance Tan Online was chosen as the official website of Science Day 2008: Welcome to the official website of Science Day 2008, launched by Awg Iskandar bin Haji Alias as the Guest of Honour of Sekolah Menengah Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar’s Science Day 2008 with the theme “Embracing the Scientific Challenges of the 21st Century”.
Sekolah Menengah Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar inaugurated the first ever Science Day with its official declaration by the Head of Oil and Gas Discovery Centre, Awg. Iskandar bin Haji Alias with this year’s theme “Embracing the Scientific Challenges of the 21st century”. The occasion commenced with welcoming speeches, followed by the official launching of the Science Day’s website, www.vancetan.com.
Newly introduced activities to the school such as the Picture Hunt Competition, Healthy Eating and Food Making, Rubik’s Cube Tournament and Science Tech Challenge 2008 were conducted throughout the school to enhance the indulgence of Science amongst the visitors and members of the school. Some other activities include the quizes setup and exhibited by the students of the school which comprises of Science-related questions.

Information about the Guest of Honour, Mr. Iskandar Bin Haji Alias.
Awang Iskandar is the Head of OGDC for more than a decade, at the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) until in 2009, he decided to be transferred to the IT Department of Brunei Shell Petroleum Company.
During his service at the Oil and Gas Discovery Centre, Iskandar has been putting tremendous effort, into making OGDC a learning centre for Science and Technology, and his motto “Looking at the world from different perspectives” has been used wisely in every effort and activity he has brainstormed.
Throughout the leadership of Iskandar at OGDC, a few series of programmes were conducted, namely the Science Adventurer’s Series, The Science Camp Series and many alike. His programmes has been overwhelming and requests from different schools throughout the country has made OGDC a well-known Science centre.
Recently, in 2009, Iskandar has to continue his strated-programme “Ignite the Sparks” with Anthony Abel College in Seria, handling Form 3 and Form 5 students. During last year’s session (2008), Vance Tan was one of the speakers one of the motivational camps as invited by Mr.Iskandar.
OGDC definitely misses the transferral of Iskandar as his efforts to promote Science and Technology is through passion, not force.
