Spirit of Raya still lives: HM
Sep 21st
BT/VT (BRUNEI) - His Majesty The Sultan and Yang D-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muiz’zaddin Waddulah stressed yesterday during a cutomary Hari Raya titah, which was aired over Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB) that even though Hari Raya this year is deemed to be different from the previous years, the spirit and enthusiasm still lives in each and every individual.

“There is nothing greater than the takbir and tahmid, as these are the cries of victory with which we celebrate the month of Syawal”, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam said in his customary Hari Raya titah.

“Allahu Akhbar Allahu Akhbar Allahu Akhbar Walillahil Hamd… Takbir rejoices the greatness of Allah (SWT), while tahmid gives praise to Him,” His Majesty said.
As places of worship brim with joy on the morning of Hari Raya, Muslims young and old, of sincere faith, will flock to mosques and religious halls to perform the sunat Aidil Fitri prayers, the monarch noted.
“This is the pinnacle of the festivities and blessing. If it (the prayers) can be done perfectly, then it is (the source) of true satisfaction.
“We feel satisfied because we are promised with the rewards of merits,” said His Majesty, who is also the head of religion in Brunei.
The benevolent ruler spoke of how the pious feel grateful when encountering a blessing and practise patience when met with calamity. His Majesty said that blessings should come above all, regardless of the circumstances.

Laila Rice inaugurated by His Majesty
Aug 5th
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam inaugurated Tuesday the first harvest of Brunei’s new Laila padi, a move which could signify a turning point in the country’s march towards self-sufficiency. This was a goal envisioned nearly half a century ago.

His Majesty, along with His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji ’Abdul ’Azim; His Royal Highness Prince ’Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince ’Abdul Mateen visited the Wasan padi fields to lead the harvest.

Equipped with traditional harvesting tools, His Majesty and the Royal Family reaped the first few padi stalks, which were planted about three months ago. In a show of triumph against the odds and after years of multiple attempts to boost local rice production, His Majesty symbolically held the padi in the air, amid loud cheers from a large crowd who turned up to witness the historic event.
